Some interesting news from Nintendo this week, like THR reports that the Japanese video game company has just acquired a new animation studio, soon to be renamed like Nintendo Pictures. Specifically, the creators of Mario took over visual content company Dynamo Pictures Inc., with plans to relaunch it in October as an in-house animation studio.

Video game adaptations have become increasingly prominent in recent years, as movies like Detective Pikachu and the sonic the hedgehog movies managed to shake at least one little of the stigma usually attached to the form. (Sony, meanwhile, took a similar swing with Unexploredand bets clearly on its The last of us adaptation at HBO to break some of the curse of game adaptation.)

Although Nintendo has never been shy about licensing its games to outside studios for television or film-live-action/animated hybrid Super Mario Super Showat the Super Mario Bros. film with Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo, at the upcoming animated film Illumination mario functionality, just to choose a plumber franchise among company’s extensive catalog – it never seriously got into producing its own content.

Not that the acquisition of Dynamo Pictures is necessarily means there will soon be an infinity Zelda the films keep coming out of the shelves, notice; the studio primarily produces CGs for video games as well as TV shows. so it’s just as likely that the company launched Nintendo Pictures to strengthen its own game production, more than make this metroid movie you dreamed of. That being said, THR note that the studio Is intend to “focus on developing visual content using Nintendo IP,” which certainly sounds like fans of the horrible donkey kong country 1990s animated series could finally get that sequel their evil hearts have been yearning for for many years.
