New PS5 Unity tech demo features awesome graphics upgrades

While the PS5 is already capable of producing some pretty amazing graphics, it’s expected that those visuals will improve as the developers expand into the hardware and the engines they use evolve to make better use of the power on offer. One such engine is Unity, which has seen one of its biggest evolutions yet by teaming up with tools from Wētā Digital, Ziva, SpeedTree, and SyncSketch. What does this all mean for the everyday PlayStation gamer? Well, better graphics for future games using the Unity engine!

PS5 Lion: Unit Art Tools

In a new tech demo called “Lion: Unity Art Tools”, we see a realistic lion interacting with a small realistic one. What makes this so impressive is that it runs in real time at 4K 30 FPS on PS5.

In the past, creators had to wait for a scene like this to render, which took much longer than the scene itself took to play. Now, with the help of Unity Art Tools, these images can be processed in real time and output at smooth 4K 30 FPS on PS5 hardware.

Unity blog post found here fully delves into the details. However, for those looking for a quick breakdown, the tech demo showcases features like: warping on animals, high fidelity foliage, realistic fur, advanced global illumination, hair simulation, and advanced lighting.

Although the showcase is very impressive, I know that many readers of this article will be eager to learn when we see this technology implemented in modern video games. Although there is no word on this yet, we hope it will be as soon as possible!
