Manga artists Keisuke Itagaki and Machiko Satonaka draw illustrations for the Paralympic program – Interest
Artists represent taekwondo and badminton, newest sports added to Paralympic Games
Manga artists Keisuke Itagaki (Baki) and Machiko Satonaka (Lady Anne) drew original artwork for the official Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games program book, which shipped to Japan on Friday. Itagaki drew an illustration on the theme of taekwondo, while Satonaka represented badminton – the two most recent sports to be added to the Paralympic Games.
The book highlights the defining traits, history, rules, top athletes, location, schedule and major tournament records for each of the 22 sports featured. An English version will be released on August 24.
In addition, animated film director Mamoru hosoda (BEAUTIFUL, Summer wars) contributed an article to the book. Other contributors include 2012 Nobel Laureate Shinya Yamanaka, and JAXA astronauts Soichi Noguchi and Akihiko Hoshide.
Manga creators Eiichiro Oda (A play), Hajime Isayama (The attack of the Titans), Naoko Takeuchi (Sailor moon), and Yoshikazu Yasuhiko (Mobile Suit Gundam) drew original artwork for the official program book for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in July.
