Juliana Vido’s illustrations celebrate the greatest female artists of our time

From Georgia O’Keefe and Marta Minujín to Lygia Clark and Yayoi Kusama, Argentina’s series of illustrations celebrate women who deserve a place in history as much as their male counterparts. Created in his colorful and playful style, the portraits are charming and feature each artist in their studio, surrounded by the materials and objects that could fill every space.

“My favorite from the show is Lee Krasner because I love his work and the way the artwork came out,” Juliana told Creative Boom. “She was instrumental in the creation of the abstract expressionist movement in the 1940s, and she introduced Jackson Pollock to other members. Yet she had a solo exhibition in the late 70s and is only now recognized as the revolutionary artist that she was.”

Another favorite of Juliana is Argentinian artist Marta Minujin: “She has become synonymous with the word artist here in my country. She is a conceptual pop artist and collaborated with Andy Warhol in his famous book, Payment of the External Debt with Corn. the job is fun and always an experience that anyone would be happy to line up for.”

Born in southern Argentina and now based in Buenos Aires, Juliana is a freelance illustrator who has spent the past seven years working on various projects for clients around the world. But art wasn’t always her chosen career path. She graduated from the National University of La Plata in 2013, where she studied cinema. “After learning film and fashion for a few years while continuing to draw as a hobby, I decided to take a course with an illustrator and realized that my art could work well for editorial illustrations,” she explains. “I tried and started working for local newspapers and magazines, then for other countries.”

The rest, as they say, is history. Check out more of Juliana’s work at juliavido.com or follow her on Instagram. As for our favorite if we had to choose? Yayoi Kusama, no doubt.
