Indie88 Premiere: Skinshape shares stop-motion animated video for new dream track “Theme For Lazarus”

Will Dorey has shared a video for his new single as Skinshape, “Theme For Lazarus”, premiering now on Indie88.

You can really hear a sense of nostalgia on “Theme For Lazarus”. It’s a dreamy track with propelling strings, chorale-like harmonies and hazy Skinshape vocal lines. Directed and animated by Kendra Morris, the accompanying video features captivating stop-motion animation that rivals a vintage collage.

“You often get themes for characters in movie soundtracks, maybe it’s our protagonist,” Dorey says. “For the music, I wanted to create something that had classic ‘Skinshape’ elements, but also add new ideas that I hadn’t used before, like pizzicato strings.”

Keep your eyes peeled for an upcoming album, which would follow on from 2018 Filoxiny. Skinshape is inspired by the works of artists like Quincy Jones and Ennio Morricone while focusing on modern artists like Khruangbin, Quantic, Tame Impala, etc.

“Will Dorey aka Skinshape has proven himself time and time again as a connoisseur of the cosmopolitan, over a prolific career expertly exploring understated sounds and theatrical textures,” according to a statement. “Taking its place alongside Khruangbin, Quantic, Tame Impala, Bonobo and Madlib, Skinshape’s global kaleidoscopes are loaded with warmth and wisdom created on vintage analog gear applying a perfectionist touch. As a member of the indie band Palace he played everywhere from Glastonbury and BBC Maida Vale to headlining Shepherd’s Bush Empire.
