Guild Wars 2 DirectX 11 beta graphics crash issues revealed

Guild Wars 2 is one of the most popular multiplayer role-playing games. Developed and published by ArenaNet, this video game is available to play on multiple platforms.

Previously, some Guild Wars 2 users have complained about loading and collision issues with Mad King’s Clock Tower animation that have been recognized by the ArenaNet team.

It looks like the issues for gamers have yet to be resolved. Guild Wars 2 players playing with DirectX 11 Beta enabled are now reporting new issues.

According to the latest reports, there have been several graphics issues with the game, such as a crash in WvW, flickering UI, unreadable text, and poor map texture.

I tried to give DX11 one more chance after the last patch but I’m still having crash issues (crowd events) I’ll keep reporting for a few more days and go back to DX9 (Source)

My game crashed twice today under DX11: once when doing a bounty, once when attacking the Choya Piñata. The two mass events, so… Back to DX9 for now. (Source)

As you might expect, these issues bother players. On the bright side, ArenaNet staff recognized the crash bug some time ago and even provided temporary workarounds.

It has been pointed out that this problem affects those who have activated the beta version of DirectX 11 with more than 30 character locations and are full screen windowed.

As a temporary measure, it can be resolved by adding DirectX 9 as a command line argument. Additionally, the team added that this issue can also be fixed by disabling all UI overlays from third parties such as Discord.

ArenaNet staff also assured players that the crashing issue was being investigated and a fix would be available as soon as possible.

And indeed, the issue was fixed in the latest Halloween patch released on October 5th.

The new patch included a bunch of fixes specifically for the beta of DirectX 11. However, gamers are still complaining about the same issue even after downloading the latest Halloween patch.

For some users the latest patch fixed the previous issues while for others the issues are still there and they need to revert to DirectX 9 in order to play the game.

Meanwhile, the ArenaNet team has yet to acknowledge recent reports of the Guild Wars 2 DirectX 11 beta crash bug.

We hope these annoying software issues will be resolved soon and players can play the game as usual again.

That being said, we’ll keep you posted on the evolving Guild Wars 2 DirectX 11 beta crash issue as we receive more updates on this matter.
