Combat Evolved Significant Animation Missing – Daily Research Ground

Halo: Combat Evolved Updates: Recently, a split-screen video was posted to the Halo subreddit that clearly showed that significant animation was missing from the Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary graphics.

Halo: Combat Evolved launched in 2001 on the original Xbox. A remaster of the game has been made for its tenth anniversary. Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary was therefore released in 2011 on Xbox 360. The remaster was released with updated graphics.

However, recently an eagle-eyed gamer recently took to Reddit to share a subtle difference in animation he noticed on the assault rifle.

Bungie, the original developer of Halo, left IP in 2010. They left Microsoft 343 as the lead developer for the Halo franchise. As developers, they have always worked to keep fans of the game happy and also worked on updating armor and other graphics.

343 took over the development of the game and as developers their first project was the 2001 Halo game remaster. Halo: CE Anniversary is intended to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the game. The game introduced new graphics and remastered textures and sound. It also included reused assets from other Halo titles.

However, gamers were given the option to switch to the default graphics at any time. There have been conflicting views on the 343 game’s remaster, while some prefer the modernized version, some believe it lacks the artistry of the original game.

Everything about Halo: Combat Evolved

A notable difference between the two versions of the game was spotted recently by Reddit user CrassusMaximus. He made a split screen video of the different graphics and posted it on the Halo subreddit. In the original game, the assault rifle eject port is opened and closed after firing to free the exhausted shell casing while in the anniversary remaster the eject port remains static when the casing is released.

This small detail cannot be seen by a single player as the rifle remains obstructed from their view. However, a second player standing to the right of the player may notice the change in the assault rifle graphics.

The little detail just shows how many minute details went into the graphics. Although it’s barely noticeable, the small omission in the anniversary version makes a difference in the overall authenticity of the graphics. In comments to the post, S-192 observed that in the anniversary version, the assault rifle housings are brighter and larger for the ejection port.

This isn’t a 343 dig of the game’s development, but it’s just an illustration of how much importance fans place on the game for noticing such minute detail.

343 is constantly working to improve its port of Halo: Combat Evolved as they plan to add it to Halo: The Master Chief Collection. They’ve made fixes to the game. So far fixes include proper fog, bump mapping, shield lighting.

Fixes have also been made to graphical issues in the original Halo: Combat Evolved. Judging by the 343’s series of fixes, it’s possible that they would go back and add the ejection port animation to the anniversary graphics. Halo’s next main game, Halo: Infinite, is slated for release later this year.
